You're trying to measure something exactly to the millimetre, but the human eye can get it wrong, sometimes by one eye more or less. With electronic measurement the caliper will never get it wrong , it will always be very accurate.

It often happens with electrical items that they discharge when you least expect it. Here 2 LR44 batteries have been included, one to run the calliper and a spare to save time and money should the first battery run out and something urgently needs to be measured.
